The population of children consist more than 43 percent of the total population of Nepal. The Board felt the need of improving pediatric health care services at the KCH through the development of the institute of child health and also to extend the knowledge and expertise to all hospitals of Nepal.
As a matter of fact, KCH has been conducting MD classes in pediatric under the accreditation of TUTH, offering elective courses for foreign and domestic university students and training nurses and lab technicians from other hospitals and nursing schools for some years.
Having realized the importance of institute of child health, the GON has entrusted the Board to initiate an action to develop infrastructure of a full-fledged institute of child health within KCH. The GON has approved the proposal of the Board to start academic, training, research and other development work at the KCH.
